Songs In The Frame
Two vampires in love, a rock star dying from AIDS, a boy living at a railway station in Paris, and a fisherman who loves to sing; what could they all possibly have in common? Not much except for one thing: they are all characters from American films. Some of them were real people, some were created by the writers and directors and yet they became part of our lives, captured our imagination, excited us, scared us, and touched our hearts.
Soprano Lola Watson, a longtime resident of the Twin Cities, is an opera singer with a long and successful career. She has appeared in leading roles on stages both in Europe and in the US.
Veronica Bell is a Russian-born award-winning classical vocalist and recording artist who has traveled the world as a concert soloist.
What do they have in common? A lot! Lola and Veronica met in San Francisco and became fast friends but before long had to go in different directions: Ms. Watson moved back to Minneapolis where she currently resides, and Ms. Bell moved to Los Angeles. As it happened, they both got busy with their careers and their families and lost touch. Now, fifteen years later, they are celebrating their reunion with the first-ever joined performance to which you are cordially invited.
At the beautiful Art Room of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church filled with priceless works of art, Lola and Veronica, with the celebrity accompanist Thomas Bartsch at the piano, will perform the music of American cinema. They will also tell you about the role music played in the creation of some best-known movies and how it influenced the mood, helped bring out the essence of the characters, and shaped the most memorable scenes making them iconic. The program includes arias and duets from classical Operas and Broadway musicals, art songs, and Jazz standards that became part of movie soundtracks.
